The Era of Bumps and Bruises

One of the exciting parts about Thomas walking around now is the fact that he can move around on his own. The unsettling part is the amount of scrapes, bumps and bruises he is acquiring. The other night, he was walking up and down the side walk, when all of a sudden...boom! He fell, catching himself mostly with his hands, but still managing to bang his forehead on the sidewalk. The sound of the "thud" is still crystal clear in my mind. I, of course, started asking Charlie about head trauma and the signs of it. Charlie assured me that if Thomas was able to play with his trucks and run around..he was fine. It's a good thing that I have Charlie here to keep me calm. Thomas got another bump on his eye this weekend and then I noticed a bump by his other eye this evening. Oh well..live and learn.

This past week, Thomas and I joined our good friends, Brenda (mom) and Malcolm (16 months) for the "truck night." There were about 15 trucks for the boys to see...fire trucks, the bookmobile, buses, streetsweepers, an ambulance, garbage trucks, etc. Thomas loved the trucks from far away, but..when we got close to them, he just wasn't quite sure about them. He shirt was all wet from making truck noises, but he didn't really want to touch them. You can tell by the look on his face, that he wasn't too comfortable by this truck. The next picture is him, playing with his free truck, that he got that night. He picked out the DHL delivery van...much more his size.

Thomas is exploring the kitchen now. We used to have a gate up between the living room and kitchen/dining room area. There are two steps that go down another level from there and we weren't able to find a gate to fit that space. But..Charlie made a gate this weekend. So, now Thomas is on the move and checking things out!

Adventures this week:

  • Saying "cheers" and clinking glasses is super fun. Sometimes it's even more fun than eating. We are definitely raising a social boy.
  • He recently acquired about 10 new cars and trucks from his first cousin once removed, in Washington. Thanks Michael. Pushing around trucks that are bigger than you are, is quite a skill.
  • Thomas likes watching dad play rugby. He likes to clap his hands and gets very jealous of the boys not sharing their rugby ball with him. Note to self..bring Thomas's little rugby ball to every match.
